Rockstar Games has released a remastered version of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Called the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, the games feature the same characters and gameplay we have come to cherish but with updated GTA V-inspired modern controls.

Improvements have been made to their resolution and visual fidelity to allow for higher resolution textures for buildings, weapons, roads, interiors, and others. Players can expect a rebuilt lighting system, improved shadows, weather, and reflections as well as upgraded character and vehicle models.

improvements were also done to the following:

  • Targeting and lock-on aiming
  • Updated Weapon and Radio Station Wheels
  • Updated Mini-Maps with enhanced navigation allowing players to set waypoints to destinations
  • Updated Achievements, Trophies, and more

The Nintendo Switch version will get Switch-specific controls such as gyro aiming and touch screen camera zooming, pans and menu selections. For the PC, the trilogy will support NVIDIA DLSS and other accomplishments via the Rockstar Games Social Club.

Make no mistake, these games stay true to their respective original, but the graphics and modeling look far nicer thanks to smoother surfaces, increased draw distances and new foliage. Improvements made to detail levels have made a big difference, because they feel far more contemporary.

Said improvements are a direct result of the adaption work done by Grove Street Games through the use of the Unreal Engine. This is why the game characters look a lot more believable, the environment more realistic and the gameplay being a little more immersive than before.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will be coming to the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, And PC on November 11th, 2021. The physical release for said game consoles will be made available to purchase on December 7th, 2021.

If you play GTA V Online, expect special additions within the game that commemorate the 20th anniversary of GTA III. This includes this week’s bonus Baseball Bat Tee.
