August 11, 2021Samsung has launched two smartwatches during today’s unpacked event alongside the main stars of the show: Galaxy Z Fold3 5 and Z Flip3 5G. The Galaxy Watch4 features a minimalist design similar to that of the Watch Active 2, while the Galaxy Watch4 Classic’s aesthetics are inline with that of its predecessor, the Watch3.
In terms of bezel diameter, the Watch4 is available in 44mm and 40mm, while the larger Watch4 Classic comes in 46mm and 44mm sizes. Under the skin, both watches feature the same hardware and assortment of sensors, which are the Optical Heart Rate, Electrical Heart and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis.

This 3-in-1 sensor uses a single chip to run and measure the various data points. They can measure blood pressure, detect an AFib irregular heartbeat, measure blood oxygen level, and for the first time calculate body composition. This new measurement provides a general idea of one’s general health and fitness.
Body composition is measured by using key parameters such as skeletal muscle, basal metabolic rate, body water and body fat percentage. Using two fingers, your Watch4 or Watch4 Classic can measure your body composition and in 15 seconds, collect about 2,4000 data points.
Both watches use the Wear OS Powered by Samsung, an improved operating system built in collaboration with Google. It uses One UI Watch, Samsung’s new and improved interface that is supposed to be more intuitive than before. The OS allows users to use popular Google apps and third-party ones that are available in the Google Play Store.
The watches will be able to run apps like Google Maps, Samsung Pay, Smart Things. Compatible apps downloaded to your phone are instantly pushed to your watch. This is in addition to the important settings like do not disturb hours and blocked callers, which are instantly synced.
Auto Switch is a feature that makes sure your earbuds can toggle audio between your phone and the Watch4 or Watch4 Classic. Samsung says the watches can also be controlled via Bixby Voice, Rotating Bezel (Watch4 Classic) and Gesture Controls. Move your forearm up and down twice to receive calls/notifications and rotate your wrist twice to reject them.
Both watches are powered by a 5nm processor in a Galaxy Watch – with 20% faster CPU and 50% more RAM, and a GPU 10 times faster than the Watch3. Though screen size remains the same, the resolution has increased to 450 x 450 pixels. Internal storage has also increased to 16GB, with Knox Security onboard, data stored on your watch should be safe from prying eyes.
Through the use of the eSIM feature, you can leave your phone behind and rely on your Watch4 or Watch4 Classic to take its place. On a single charge these watches offer 40 hours of battery life. They also provide about 10 hours of battery life when kept to charge for 30 minutes.
The Watch4 price starts at $249.99 for Bluetooth versions and $299.99 for LTE models; they can be purchased in Black, Silver and Pink Gold . The Watch4 Classic starts at $349.99 for Bluetooth versions and $399.99 for LTE models in Black and Silver.
