Samsung’s Galaxy Watch5 & Watch5 Pro Can Help Predict Ovulation Cycle

Samsung is introducing skin temperature measurement to the Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro, which will be added to the existing calendar-based Cycle Tracking feature. This will help users better manage their menstrual cycles and overall health. Said functionality will be released in stages via Samsung Health app update in Korea, USA and 30 other European markets.

“The new infrared temperature sensor on Galaxy Watch5 broadens our whole health offerings, providing more convenient ways to track and understand personal health,” said Hon Pak, Vice President and Head of Digital Health Team, MX Business at Samsung Electronics.

As a means to forecast their next period, examining temperature readings can be a fairly accurate way of going about it. This is because basal body temperature (BBT) varies by menstrual phase. BBT needs to be measured immediately after waking up and prior to any type of physical activity. However, sticking to this type of regiment can prove to be extremely inconvenient.

That’s why Samsung’s skin temperature reading can prove to be a Godsend. It automates the entire process, which means you don’t have to lift a finger to record your BBT. The cycle Tracking feature is powered by Natural Cycles. It’s integrated with Samsung’s sensor technology to track skin temperature changes.

Estimated BBT can be measured directly from your watch while you sleep. The Watch5 and Watch5 Pro use infrared technology that is quite accurate at taking readings even if conditions around you change.

Cycle Tracking helps women track ovulation and better predicate when their next period will begin. To activate this feature, open the Samsung Health app, add your most recent cycle information into the calendar, then turn on “Predict period with skin temp” in the settings.

Readings that have been recorded from the previous month are displayed as a graph, showing their period and a prediction of the ovulation and fertile window. Besides this, Cycle Tracking also evaluates symptoms entered into the daily log and is able to provide relevant information related to them.

This could include scheduling a day to relax to address fatigue or commit to exercises to relieve premenstrual pelvic pain. Besides this, the Samsung Health app is also able to provide content to better manage holistic health during cycles, such as guided stretching or meditation classes to reduce stress and improve quality of sleep.
