January 13, 2021 Off By Rowena Cletus

Sony will showcase its latest advancements based on the theme of “Redefining Our Future with Tomorrow’s Technologies” at the all-digital CES 2021, scheduled to take place from January 11-14 (PST). During this time, the company will be showcasing a range of business activities that reflect their core 3R technology; Reality, Real-time, and Remote.

Exhibit Overview

Virtual Reality Content Creation
Sets and locations for film and television productions are specified as 3D volumetric point cloud data, and then they are processed and rendered by Sony Innovation Studios’ “Atom View” software, which displays them on a LED display as a visual rendering of their planned production.

Madison Beer Immersive Technology Concert Experience
Madison Beer, musician and singer at Epic Records, is collaborating with Sony Music Entertainment International and Verizon to create a virtual reality experience that allows users to attend a concert created by way of the latest 3D technology. The virtual Madison Beer will perform a medley of her latest songs in a recreation of Sony Hall.

360 Audio Reality Music Production Tools
Sony and Virtual Sonics, a company making music software, has developed the 360 Reality Audio Creative Suite, a tool for creating music that sounds like it was performed in a 360 spherical field.

AirPeak
First showcased by Sony, the AirPeak is a highly innovative quadcopter that features a full-frame digital camera, enabling real-time stable, “steady” aerial photography and videography.

Xperia 5 II Video Production Support
Sony is bringing more color and better lighting effects to the Xperia 5 II 5G phone, with its flagship lineup and the augmented camera tools. A color setting that replicates the professional graphics technology provided by Sony directly delivers unparalleled color accuracy to the display as the artist would expect. 5G allows real-time data transmissions.

Spatial Reality Display
A display that represents three-dimensional images in a manner similar to real life, enabling designers to share their vision of products and modify their appearance, color, or shape while also showing their intent to viewers. This type of video offering adds extraordinary realism and detail to the video experience, and delivers sense of presence that allows the viewer to get a detailed sense of objects in the video, including such features such as their depth, texture, and more.

LED Crystal Display
The new Crystal LED series includes the X1™ for Crystal LED that offers both the LED control tech they developed earlier for Crystal LED and the signal processing tech acclaimed in Sony’s BRAVIA TV series. Designs can be expressed in an array of layouts and dimensions for various apps such as corporate showrooms, lobbies, and virtual productions, producing a highly immersive human concentrate that stimulates the imagination of designers.

BRAVIA XR features
The new BRAVIA XR televisions are equipped with the new processor XR, which reflects the cognitive characteristics of the human. The advanced processor detects the viewer’s focal points and delivers an image quality that is more natural and closer to human memory. It will also upscale sound to 5.1.2 channels to completely immerse fans in surround sound from top to bottom and left to right, delivering a more realistic and immersive experience than they’ve ever felt before, close to the sensation of images and sounds that people experience in real life.

360 Reality audio with spatial sound technology
Sony will launch a live performance video content streaming service that enables listeners to experience a sense of being in the same space as artists, with 360° Reality Audio combined with the images, in cooperation with major music labels and streaming providers. This is scheduled for the end of the year. Zara Larsson will pre-release a feature as audio-visual content for the 360 degree content prior to the launch of the service.

Hot on the heels of its PlayStation 5 launch, Sony is gearing up for an eventful 2021. The tech that we have mentioned here, encompasses a portion of what the company will bring to market this year. Stay tuned for more soon.
