Sony has released a firmware update that will allow its all-powerful compact camera, the ZV-1 to be used as a webcam with any PC. It should be able to provide users with high-quality video and audio for live streaming sessions, by plugging the device into the computer via a USB cable.

In addition to this, the update will also allow for the connection of a compatible Xperia smartphone with the ZV-1. The purpose is to get the phone to function as a secondary display, read comments and monitor live feeds. The new software should make this a ‘plug-and-play’ affair negating the need for complicated setting adjustments.

This is a similar approach used by other mainstream camera manufacturers in the past to help customers take full advantage of their cameras’ capabilities. Users of the ZV-1 will be able to use its high-quality UVC/UAC 5support, for live streaming, video calls and more.

The new firmware update is available for both Windows and MacOS. Click on the on the respective operating systems to begin the download.
