Sony has just launched a nifty little pocket camera called the ZV-1. Weighing just 294g with dimensions (105.5mm x 60.0mm x 43.5mm), the ZV-1 has a side-opening LCD screen that makes it more convenient to use and facilitate the mounting of an external mic (MI shoe).

Though it has a 3.5mm mic jack, the ZC-1 also has a directional 2-capsule mic for forward-directional audio capture. Sony says it is able to minimize background noise while recording a subject’s voice clearly. There’s also the latest autofocus tech that can track subjects clearly and with good accuracy when in ‘busy’ environments.

Face Priority auto exposure allows the camera to to detect and prioritizes the subject’s face. It then adjusts the exposure to ensure said face is depicted at an ideal brightness, regardless of the environment. It is also able to lessen the effects caused by the sudden change in lighting. This effectively reduces the blown-out or dark shots caused by a subject’s movement.

Sony says that the ZV-1 shouldn’t be sized up based on its size alone, because it features optical and electronic stabilization that is said to be 11 times more effective than the tried and tested SteadyShot. Here’s what this pocket cam is capable of:

  • 4K movie recording with full pixel readout and no pixel binning in high bit rate XAVC S™ codec.
  • Industry standard 3.5mm microphone input
  • Hybrid Log-Gamma (HDR) / S-Gamut3.Cine / S-Log3, S-Gamut3 / S-Log3
  • Interval Shooting for stunning time-lapse videos
  • Super Slow Motion recording at up to 960fps
  • Compatibility with ‘Movie Edit add-on’ from the “Imaging Edge™” mobile application for image stabilization while editing Highlight ability to edit aspect ratios for IG etc.

Th Sony ZV-1 compact camera will be available in select countries in the Asia Pacific region beginning in June. Take a look at the full product details here.
