Spotify users crave music at all times, no matter how busy or on the go they are. Sometimes we will be handling so many things simultaneously, whether it is cooking, exercising, or running an errand, that we feel drained of alll our energy. That’s why Spotify has developed a voice-controlled experience where you can say “Hey Spotify” then the respective command to navigate, as well as find songs in music and podcasts – without using your hands.

Listeners can now enjoy an enjoyable personalized Spotify experience by using voice-controlled access to personalized playlists.

Here are five things you need to know about the new voice experience of “Hey Spotify”:

1. Whether or not you want voice control, you can easily turn it on or off.
To enable Spotify’s microphone access, tap the mic icon and enable “Hey Spotify”. Once that’s enabled, you can ask for music or podcasts, control playback, and more.

2. The “Hey Spotify” feature can be turned off by simply tapping the gear icon to go to Settings, then tap the “Voice interactions” setting.

3. There is no longer a Search tab. When you say ‘Hey Spotify’ you’ll be taken to the Spotify Voice feature, eliminating the need to go through the Search tab. Play the mix just by saying “Hey Spotify, play my Daily Drive” to instantly hear the beat.

4. Spotify lets you pick from countless songs, artists, moods, genres and channels from any artist you have listened to, whether it be an old school track or the latest track. If you don’t know the name of a song, just ask Spotify to play a particular artist or genre, and you’re sure to find something you’ll love.

5. Whenever you say “Hey Spotify”, the app will start listening to what you say, and it will not stop until it has been able to understand your request or question. Spotify will also alert you—with a tone or visual —when it receives voice commands. For the rest of the time, the app listens for “Hey Spotify” in short snippets of a few seconds, then deletes them if they are not used.
