TCL Introduces Two New Smartphones With Paper-Like Display

TCL has launched its 40 NXTPAPER and NXTPAPER 5G, which the company claims are the first smartphones to offer a full color, paper-like visual experience. The former features a squarish, industrial-type design that’s in line with contemporary themes but the 5G version seems to draw inspiration from far more dated phones.

The company claims that its paper-like display offers better eye comfort for users who tend to look at their screens for extended periods of time. They are also certified by TUV for low harmful blue light. Like conventional screens, there’s a sensor that adjusts display brightness and color temperature based on the time of day and the ambient light around to ensure a suitable viewing experience.

These displays offer anti-glare properties that are achieved by their paper-like matte effect texture. They are also resistant to fingerprint smudges, which should reduce the number of times you’ll need to wipe the screen clean. The full color displays are optimized for use with the NXTPAPER UI. Users can choose between a full-color manga or a black-and-white experience.

The TCL 40 NXTPAPER has a 6.8” FHD+ display, dual speakers and supports 3D boom sound powered by DTS. As for cameras, it gets a 50MP wide, 5MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro sensor. On the front there’s a 32MP selfie camera. The phone’s display also supports the NXTPAPER-compatible T-pen, which is a 7.89mm stylus meant for note taking or sketching.

TCL’s 40 NXTPAPER gets 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM, but that can be increased by another 8GB through its virtual RAM expansion feature. Powering the phone is a MediaTek Helio G88 and Mali-G52 MC2 GPU. Battery capacity is 5,010mAh and it supports 33W fast charging.

The 40 NXTPAPER 5G on the other hand, gets a 6.6” HD+ display, a MTK 6833V_NZA chipset, ARM G57 MC2 GPU, 256GB storage and 6GB RAM. The memory can be expanded by a further 6GB with the virtual RAM feature. Battery capacity stands at 5,000mAh with support for 15W fast charging. As for cameras, it gets a 50MP main sensor as well as a 2MP depth and macro ones, respectively. On the front is an 8MP selfie camera.

The TCL 40 NXTPAPER is available to purchase in Opalescent and Midnight Blue at RM 899. On the other hand, the TCL 40 NXTPAPER 5G can be had in Starlight Black at RM 999. If you purchase any of these phones from 10 – 17 October, you will receive a pair of MOVEAUDIO Air Wireless Earbuds worth RM 159.

Both TCL 40 NXTPAPER and TCL 40 NXTPAPER 5G can be purchased beginning 10 October from TCL Mobile Malaysia’s official store on Lazada and Shopee as well as dealers’ stores.
