Tesla Model S Goes Rogue, Again
April 19, 2021Tesla’s semi-autonomous technology allows its vehicles to drive on public roads with minimal human intervention. Unfortunately, certain owners tend to forget the last part of that sentence, and choose to take unnecessary risks. According to a report by Reuters, in Houston, Texas two occupants of a Tesla Model S were killed in an accident involving this tech.
Reports from local TV station KHOU-TV say that said Tesla was travelling at a high rate of speed when it failed to negotiate past a bend and veered off and crashed into a tree. Upon impact, the vehicle burst into flames, killing both occupants onboard. Authorities found that there was nobody in the driver’s seat.
Instead, there was one in the front passenger seat and the other was seated in the rear. Tesla’s semi-autonomous driving technology isn’t designed to function without a driver. Instead, it is meant to take control of the car for short distances on roads with clear markings. This isn’t the first incident caused by the negligence of Tesla drivers.
There have been several drivers who have meant their untimely demise in a similar fashion. The misconception pertaining to this “driverless” tech have put Tesla under the spotlight for the wrong reasons. It also goes to show that we aren’t quite ready for fully autonomous vehicles, even if the technology is already here.
