What’s Next For Google And Samsung’s WearOS?

Last year, Samsung’s partnership with Google brought to fruition Wear OS powered by Samsung. It was an improved version of the Search giant’s faltering wearables’ operating system and debuted on the Galaxy Watch4.

As a result, there are three times more devices running Wear OS today than there were last year. By merging the Tizen-based software platform with Google’s operating system, Samsung says that it was able to bring immense improvements to the overall experience. This includes the ability to use various features such as Watch Face Studio.

The new OS is a marked improvement over the original, allowing for smoother operation and better integration of features and third-party apps. When you download a compatible app on your Android smartphone, you can choose to have it installed on your Galaxy watch as well.

So, what’s next for the operating system?

Health Connect, which has just been introduced, is part of the company’s ongoing effort to deliver holistic health solutions to users. Samsung has promised that later this year, it will allow the integration of Google Assistant with the Watch4. It will feature faster and more natural voice interactions similar to the experience you’d get on a smartphone.

But that isn’t all, because the watch will also get better integration with third-party apps. This will allow users to control Spotify with Google Assistant and change songs with only their voice. In addition to this, more Google apps and services will be available for Galaxy Watches, which should increase the usability of Samsung wearables.

As impressive as this may be, Patrick Chomet, EVP and Head of Customer Experience Office at Mobile eXperience Business Samsung Electronics says that they’ve only scratched the surface. And that the next wave of innovations and ecosystem enhancements are on the way.
