It’s a budget phone with peculiar attributes, meant to lure younger would-be buyers

Xiaomi has launched a new smartphone for the Chinese market, called the Mi 10 Lite Zoom Edition. It’s a 7.88mm thin phone aimed at enticing younger consumers with a price of RMB 2,099 (USD298). Sporting a contemporary look, the budget-minded Mi, features a periscope camera capable of 5x optical zoom and 50x digital zoom.

The 6.57-inch teadrop AMOLED display has a resolution of 2400 x 1080, and is said to be 33% thinner than before. Powering the device is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 5G chip with a combination of either 6GB or 8GB RAM (storage: 64GB/128GB/256GB).

Considerable emphasis was placed on making the phone as slim as possible. Hence the reason for the thin display, a 7.6% thinner custom-made periscope camera and a 25% thinner heat pipe, resulting in a reduction of the overall width by 0.1mm. The company says that these measures allowed the phone to have a ‘slimmed-down’ design and better weight reduction.

And despite the anorexic approach, the phone is equipped with a 4,160mAh battery, which Xiaomi says will ‘comfortably’ offer a day’s worth of power. The same can be said of the quad camera setup on the phone’s rear. The assembly consists of a 48MP main sensor,8MP wide angle, 8MP telephoto and 2MP macro camera.

The periscope lens, supposedly, is the best in any smartphone, enabling users to capture detailed close up shots and those of objects that are far-away. The telephoto is supported by optical image stabilization to help achieve better quality shots and video.

Here’s the full breakdown of the specifications:

The phone’s MIUI 12 interface comes with features called Flare, Barbed Wire and Mask System. Flare marks out sensitive app activities, Barbed Wire allows users to take control of app permissions and Mask System provides rogue apps with blank information to protect data for five permissions including contact lists, calendar, and call records.
