Zenly, is exploding in Malaysia thanks to TikTok

A free mobile app called Zenly, which allows you to see a live map of your friends and family, jumped up to number 1 in Malaysia’s App Store this week after becoming popular on TikTok.

Zenly users have a trend where they record their loved ones moving across their map in real time, set to a song by Mohd Mentor called Sepala (a song that recently gained popularity thanks to TikTok). According to Zenly, couples are among top users of the app, along with best friends, siblings, roommates, and colleagues. Users use the app so they are informed about what their loved ones are doing and spend more time with them.

Over 500,000 views were garnered by one of the original videos, with couples tagging each other to download the app together in the comments section. The Zenly team reported a 121% growth in Malaysia following this trend.

The app has skyrocketed before thanks to user-generated trends originating on TikTok. Zenly’s TikTok videos have 128M views and the company reports that user-generated trends emerge almost every week in countries around the world mentioning the hashtag.
