Google no longer has the mobile map space to itself. Cupertino has just completed a major overhaul of its own Maps app, which has Google-like features, minus the privacy concerns. Users also have access to street-level, high-resolution images and detailed map view of any location, allowing you to zoom, pan, tilt and rotate around the city and its landmarks.

It also lets you store your most frequent destinations in the favorites section, where it can be conveniently accessed while on the move. The app also always people to share lists of their favorite restaurants or places they would like to visit. This can then serve as helpful information to others in the vicinity, while still keeping your identify private.

Like Google’s helpful assistant, Apple Maps uses ‘intelligence’ to gather your most important data and present it to you in a meaningful way. This includes providing detailed transit schedules, live departure times, arrival times, the current location of a bus or train en route, and system connections. This information can help with your daily commutes.

In addition to this, you can also send your location and estimated time of arrival to anyone, through a feature called Share ETA. Indoor Maps for airports and malls, provide relevant information based on where you are. For example, it can tell you, where the closest restrooms are located, or which stores and restaurants are open.

Last but not least is the addition of Siri’s natural language guidance. She will be able to provide turn by turn instructions in a more natural tone of voice, which is similar to what Google has been trying to achieve. As of now, these outstanding features are only available in select cities in the US. But in time, users from across the world will have access to it too.
