Autonomous Delivery Drones Go Through Final Tests In Sweden

Aerit, a Swedish ‘sustainable’ drone delivery startup, is conducting advanced tests on its autonomous drone delivery platform to gauge its readiness for commercial use. The company’s goal is to have its drones fulfill the needs for delivery services in several select communities across Sweden. If proven successful it could change the way courier services work.

It’s estimated that Aerit could take on 40% of total supply chain cost for restaurants, grocery stores, and consumer product firms. Since the COVID-19 outbreak began, most of us have relied heavily on delivery and logistics services to stock up on food, groceries and keep our businesses going. As a result of this, CO2 emissions continue to increase.

Here’s what DJI’s drones are capable of:

That’s where Aerit believes its business model should prove helpful. Since its fleet of drones are battery powered, relying on such vehicles for delivery services can reduce emissions by up to 190g per km compared with ones that run on the internal combustion engine.

“At Aerit, safety is our top priority. The testing schedule this week is designed to verify our knowledge of the drone’s performance characteristics and safety features in real world conditions before we begin operations later this year.” said Alexander Perrien, Chief Executive Officer of Aerit.

The company is currently putting its drone platform through its paces for a full week of trials at a testing facility in Stockholm, Sweden. Aerit needs to finalize collection of testing data for submission of a Specific Operations Risk Assessment (SORA) based permit application, required by EU regulations, to begin delivery operations
