Telegram Offers More Reasons To Ditch WhatsApp

WhatsApp has been hemorrhaging users ever since it bungled its privacy update announcement. Instead of coming off as transparent, the act raised suspicion about how cozy the messaging service is with parent company Facebook in terms of sharing user data. Its rivals, noticing blood in the water, have piled on the pressure with targeted ad campaigns.

The objective is to lure users away from WhatsApp with the promise of better privacy ethics and more useful features. One of the more well-known alternatives, Telegram has made it even easier to switch platforms. In a blogpost, the company boasted that over 100 million new users joined its messaging service in January alone.

One of the reasons for this is the ability to easily migrate chat history, videos and documents from WhatsApp, Line and Kakaotalk with relative ease. This is how its done for WhatsApp:

To move a chat from WhatsApp on iOS, open the Contact Info or Group Info page in WhatsApp, tap Export Chat, then choose Telegram in the Share menu.

On Android, open a WhatsApp chat, tap >More > Export Chat, then choose Telegram in the Share menu.

Save Valuable Space
Instead of clogging up your phone’s storage with unused pictures, videos or chat data, allow Telegram to free up space by deleting unused files. They can be redownloaded when needed. Use the Free Up Space function to get this done.

Delete Chats For Both Sides
Besides having secret chats, users can now delete chats and call logs on their phone and that of their recipients. It’s the next evolutionary step in user privacy. Telegram says that its servers “don’t store information about deleted chats and call logs, so the data will disappear completely, forever.” As such, once you delete the chat, its gone, completely.

Improved Voice Chats
Telegram lets you see which of your groups have active chats by looking at the top of the Call History. Taking this a step further, you can now adjust the volume of individual participants to manage microphone levels. Adjustments made by group admins are applied for all listeners.

Better Music Player Functions
Tap on the current track’s author name in the player to see their tracks from all your chats. There’s also a fade effect that gradually increases or decreases the music volume when pausing or resuming music.
