Dell’s new XPS 13 (1.27kg) is a marked improvement over its predecessor. The new device is fitted with a larger 13.4-inch display that is surrounded by narrower bezels. This gives it the same form factor as an 11-inch laptop, allowing it to slot into just about any backpack.

There are three screen options to choose from, which are a 4K (3840×2400) touch display, 1920×1200 touch display and non-touch variant of the same resolution. These panels feature Dell’s Infinity Edge technology and is said to offer decent colour accuracy.

The improved sleek design features an edge-to-edge keyboard with larger keycaps and a larger touchpad. This improves usability somewhat because the larger keyboard and touchpad will definely appeal to a wider audience.

Powering the XPS 13 is a choice of 3 different Intel 10th Gen Core i prcessors. The base unit features a dual-core i3-1005G1 chip (3.4GHz), a Quad Core i5-1035G1 (up to 3.6GHz) and a Quad Core i7-1065G7 (up to 3.9GHz). RAM configurations vary but range from 4GB to 32GB.

There’s a 52WHr non-removable battery that Dell says is able to provide up to 19 hours of battery life on a single charge. All-day battery life is becoming the norm with premium laptops but the XPS 13 fitted with the 4K display may have significantly higher power consumption.

Despite its diminutive size, the XPS 13 still has 2 thunderbolt 3 Ports, a microSD card slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Also, a Type-C to USB-A 3.0 adapter is provided with each laptop, which should be to the liking of those who still rely on legacy devices.

The standard XPS 13 comes with Windows 10 preinstalled but the Developer Edition is preloaded with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. Prices for this new device start at $999.99. Both come in either Black or white, but check your local Dell Online Store for pricing of your preferred specifications.
