DJI Action 2, Modular & Versatile Action Cam

DJI has released a new compact camera called the Action 2. Unlike its predecessor, it takes on a cube form for a more condensed and slimmer look. The device has a 1/1.7-inch sensor that can record up to 4k/120fps video with a 155-degree field of view. Its color temperature sensor restores color tones of challenging lighting conditions.

This is supposed to make underwater recordings look more natural and with vibrant colors. There’s also RockSteady 2.0, which offers a better level of smoothness for captured footage. HorizonSteady ensures a level frame throughout the recording even when shooting extremely shaky footage.

There’s a 1.76-inch OLED touchscreen on the back that is protected by Gorilla Glass and supports haptic feedback for more precise controls. A feature called SnapShot allows the camera to be turned on and start recording in just one second by holding the power button down.

Weighing just 56grams, the DJI Action 2 is designed as a modular camera with accessories that can be magnetically attached directly below its base. They too are square shaped and snap on to the bottom of the Action 2’s body. Only a single module can be attached to the camera at any given time and there are two to choose from.

There’s the front touchscreen module, power module as well as a plethora of peripherals that can be added or interchanged depending on one’s needs. The Action 2’s internal battery offers 70 minutes of run time on a single charge, but that increases to 160 minutes when it’s connected with the front touchscreen module or 180 minutes with the power module.

The front touch screen module supports DJI Matrix Stereo technology. This allows the single camera on the Action 2 to work with the three microphones on said module to offer audio recording from all directions for a more immersive recording session.
