Featuring The Greenroom
June 17, 2021The Spotify team is constantly working on creating and implementing new audio formats to help creators and fans connect in new ways. In March, Spotify officially embraced live audio when it acquired Betty Labs, the company behind Locker Room. Creators now have another opportunity to connect even more meaningfully with their fans through this move.
As Spotify has worked to develop Locker Room, a new app that allows for live audio functionality, the company has been adding functionality that creates a delightful experience for listeners and producers alike. As a result, Spotify wanted the new app to offer some additions on top of the existing app that 356 million listeners already love. Because of that, Daniel Ek, Spotify’s Founder and CEO, renamed it to “Spotify Greenroom” in a recent episode of the Spotify: For the Record podcast.
First time ever, Spotify Greenroom is now available on both iOS and Android in over 135 countries worldwide. Greenroom was built with creators and artists in mind, focusing on interactivity and meaningful connections between participants. As part of today’s release, the app offers:
* An entirely redesigned app experience (Greenroom)
*Hosting and taking part in live rooms is now possible
*Utilizing your Spotify account to join Greenroom
*A new welcome experience that prioritizes users’ interests
*Recording functionality for on-demand content Live
To ensure the best possible user experience, chat controls are available.

Spotify continues to evolve its Greenroom offering as it learns more about what creators and listeners desire from live audio experiences. A variety of exciting new programming will be made available on the platform covering music, culture, and entertainment topics in addition to the sports content Locker Room has always been known for.
The Spotify Creator Fund is also being launched to help monetize the work of live audio creators, as part of our effort to make Greenroom the best platform for creators. Individuals interested in being a part of the Creator Fund can register for information when it opens later this summer.
In addition to enabling live broadcasts, Spotify offers users an opportunity to discover, consume, and drive growth of the live category overall. Spotify’s move into live audio begins today with the announcement of the app, which lays the groundwork for a wide array of content and innovative features.
Spotify will be releasing more information as well as new content programming and products in the coming months.
