Google has finally launched its latest smartphones: Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. They feature a new distinctive feature called the Camera Bar, which house the camera sensors. Matte black in colour, it protrudes from the clrear shell giving the phone a unique look. It’s supposed to give the phones a symmetrical design and offer prominence to the camera system.

The Pixel 6 Pro’s design was inspired by jewelry and luxury watches. It has a polished metal unibody covered in curved glass. The shells are painted in colours that complement the metallic frames. Gone are the hideous notches of thier predecessors and in their place, a tasteful hole punch layout.

These phones will be the first to ship with Android 12, which brings new and interesting features to Google’s operating system. For instance, when you choose a wallpaper for your phone, the entire UI changes to reflect the colours of said wallpaper – it’s supposed to add a sense of uniqueness to the entire experience. The UI is also smoother compared to Android 11.

At a Glance, is another noteworthy addition to the new operating system. It displays information that matters the most to you on the home and lock screen. Here you’ll be able to see your boarding passes of your flights or stats from your workouts.

Google says that the new phones are highly rated for security due to their use of the next generation Titan M2, which works with Tensor security core. The system protects your sensitive user data, PINS and passwords. The Search giant also promises to provide at least 5 years of security updates for both phones.

One of the main strengths of Pixel smartphones are the camera hardware. This time around, both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro get a new 1/1.3-inch sensor on the back. It can capture up to 150% more light compared to the Pixel 5. This Google says, equates to capturing photos and videos with greater detail and richer colours.

There’s also a new ultrawide lens and sensor for improved wide angle shots. The Pixel 6 Pro also gets a telephoto lens with 4x optical zoom and up to 20x zoom supported by Super Res Zoom. Besides this, the flagship phone gets an upgraded ultrawide front camera that is capable of 4k video recording. A Quick Tap to Snap feature for Snapchat is coming to both phones later in the year.
