Jeff Bezos, the world’s richest man, has committed $10 billion to his newly minted Bezos Earth Fund. The founder of Amazon broke the news in an Instagram post stating that that he considers climate change to be the “biggest threat to our planet”. And that we need to band together to find solutions to the problem.

Bezos admits that this isn’t an easy task and wishes to enlist the help of anyone willing to fight for the cause, including companies big or small and individuals. The fund will be used to find ways to combat the impact of climate change.

He then went on to say that the Bezos Earth Fund will “begin issuing grants this summer”. This couldn’t come sooner, because the planet is in desperate need of people who are willing to step up and make a difference.

According to a climate change article by NASA, scientists predict that global temperatures will continue to rise in the coming years, due mostly to greenhouse gases. And forecasts say that a temperature rise of 2.5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit is possible over the next century.

The earth is getting warmer as the years progress, which in turn, has lead to glaciers shrinking, loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise, shifting of plant and animal ranges, and more intense heat waves. These devastating effects well get exponentially worse if nothing is done to combat climate change.
