Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team Use 3D Printing For Rapid Prototyping
February 19, 20233D printers are really good tools when it comes to creating prototype parts. Instead of having to create individual molds with which you’d use a type of resin to form certain shapes, you could have a 3D printer do the same in minutes/hours. It takes a big chunk of time out of the prototyping phase of a project that can instead be used on more valuable work. This is why it’s widely used in various sectors.
The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team also utilizes this technology for their rapid prototyping phase. Various printers and materials are used to create custom parts, which can then be tested to see what works and what doesn’t. The following is a short clip on what actually goes on at the company’s R&D center where the technology is used.
