Samsung Galaxy A52 Vs A52s 5G: What’s The Difference?

December 3, 2021 Off By Naveen Victor

Samsung has a tendency to ignore the annual refresh cycle of its A5x line of phones. Instead of introducing one phone each year like it does for its flagship devices, this nomenclature receives one every six months. This year saw the end of this practice because we got, not one, but two phones of the same namesake.

One was called the A52, while the other the A52 5G. The latter, though identical in screen size and overall dimensions, was equipped with a slightly faster processor, higher screen refresh rate and of course the inclusion of 5G. As it was the case with previous generation A5x devices, six months down the line, Samsung would eventually introduce the “s” variant.

It has come to represent a “refined” version of the original phone it is based on. This year, the Korean manufacturer threw a curve ball when it introduced the A52s 5G. Instead of the Snapdragon 750G of the A52 5G, this phone got the more capable Snapdragon778 5G.

Here’s how the A52 stacks up against the A52s 5G

Specifications

In terms of overall usability, the A52 5G is head and shoulders better than the original A52. Take a look at our reviews of both phones to view what we think of them:

The A52s 5G is the better phone but that isn’t a surprise considering its about RM400 more expansive than the regular A52. But, which should you buy? That entirely depends on what you will be using the phone for.

Buy the A52 if:

You want a dependable mid-range phone that can handle your day-to-day activities like shuffling through various messaging, e-merchant and social media apps. The A52 can do it all without running into performance issues. The 90Hz refresh rate screen makes anything you do, feel like a buttery smooth experience.

The phone takes really nice pictures and steady videos thanks to better hardware and software integration. The results are fit for social media as well as professional uses. It looks good and offers a very decent user experience. Its only Achilles’ heel is gaming. Its GPU isn’t good enough to play demanding titles.

Buy the A52s 5G if:

You want a pocketable smartphone with flagship-like capabilities. Its blisteringly fast for what it is – and is bound to entice someone who isn’t comfortable with carrying a large phone on their person. It can do everything that the A52 does, just a lot faster. This includes gaming. Demanding games should play well without major hiccups.

That said, the A52s 5G isn’t for everyone because of its relatively expensive price tag. Its fans will understand the appeal of a relatively small form factor device that can accomplish heavy computational tasks. But for the average Joe, the A52 will do.
