Affordable tablets are gaining in popularity due to accelerated adoption of online classes/learning in schools as well as the need for cheap entertainment devices. Samsung’s new budget tablet, the Galaxy Tab A8 builds upon the success of its predecessor by offering good looks and better features.

The new Tab A8’s design brings it in line with that of its more expensive siblings thanks to a minimalist rear shell and large, circular rear camera. There are three color options available, grey, silver and pink gold. The tablet has a 10.5-inch display (1920×1200) and a 16:10 aspect ratio and it’s surrounded by relatively thin bezels.

Samsung has fitted it with a quad-speaker setup with Dolby Atmos support, which should make media consumption more enjoyable. The availability of Samsung TV Plus and its more than 200 free channels as well as two months ad-free YouTube Premium, will keep users entertained for quite a while.

Overall performance is about 10% better than the Tab A7, which isn’t a substantial increase but is still welcomed nonetheless. The tablet comes in either 3 or 4GB RAM configurations and a choice of either 32,64 or 128GB storage options. The 7,040mAh battery supports 15W fast charging capability.

The Tab A8 offers interactive educational content and convenient parental controls for a safe and engaging learning environment. Users can access device usage and activity in a single place and can set screen time limits. Kids can customize the home screen with playful icons and color schemes.

Multi-tasking features such as two apps placed side-by-side or three with multi-active window allow for better productivity at work or in the classroom. When you click and drag a link outside a browser’s border, it is automatically converted into its own window. This is called drag & split which allows for more productive webpage browsing.

Samsung has given the A8 a single 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front selfie camera. The inclusion of the Screen Recorder feature can help teachers and students record clearer videos or tutorials with the ability of capturing voices. It also allows users to record themselves making annotations as they highlight key points or write on screen.

Like other Samsung tablets, you can transition between the Tab A8 and your smartphone by sharing text, a webpage, images and more between the devices with a copy and paste. Besides this, the tablet is also protected by the company’s Knox security platform with multi-layer protection.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 will be available in Europe beginning late December, and will be available in other regions in January 2022. Visit Samsung.com for more information.
