Samsung is gearing up to release its latest installment of its Android internet browser, Samsung Internet Browser 14.0. Currently available in beta, the new version, which is due in April, boasts improved privacy and security settings as well as a revamped UI for foldable devices. The emphasis on the last part could signal the company’s shift to favor such devices.

“With Samsung Internet 14.0 beta, we want users to enjoy browsing with peace of mind, knowing they’ll have full control and visibility over their data,” says Du Kim, VP and Head of Web R&D Group, Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics.

Improved Privacy Features
It comes with enhanced smart anti-tracking that helps detect when websites are trying to track you and automatically stops them. There’s also a new security control panel that is supposed to make it easier to control your privacy settings and view useful daily stats. This includes how many pop-ups and trackers have been blocked.

Improved Viewing On Foldables
Flex mode, a feature that lets you use the halves of the screen for different purposes like watching a video on the top half, while the bottom displays the controls. Well, in Samsung’s updated browser, the feature will be enabled automatically if watching a video in full screen mode.

Better Multitasking
The App Pair feature lets you launch multiple Samsung internet browsers simultaneously and view them in a split-screen format. This isn’t an easy thing to do with Google Chrome, but requires considerable effort. Well, that’s no longer a problem if you use Samsung’s browser.

Choose Your Font
You can now make the browser match the font that you use on your phone. Samsung hopes that with this feature, can make it easier for users to read content and enjoy a better experience. Enabling this, requires you to change the setting in the ‘Labs’ section of the Samsung Internet Settings menu.

Other notable features include:

  • ‘S Pen to text’ on the Galaxy Tab S7 series: Using your S Pen, you can now write directly into text box areas, including address bars, and your handwriting will be transformed into text
  • Reader mode: Use the improved Reader mode to automatically reorganize, text-heavy pages into a more digestible and easy-to-read format.
  • Translation Extension: Powered by Samsung Research’s translation engine, this browser extension supports 18 languages5, allowing you to easily view translations as you browse the web.
