SmartThings Energy: Reducing Energy Consumption

Consumers can now take control over their energy consumption of smart appliances and HVAC systems by monitoring, setting targets, and receiving notifications with Samsung’s SmartThings Energy via the SmartThings app. It can help reduce household energy expenses and contributing to a lower carbon footprint, SmartThings Energy can reduce monthly energy bills for consumers.

As people spend more time at home during the pandemic, energy efficiency has become one of the most sought after smart home features. Offering a real-time view of energy consumption data, analysis and cost estimates, SmartThings Energy can help conserve power.

“We are proud to offer our consumers a smart home experience that is more energy-efficient and eco-friendly, as they wish to contribute to creating a better, more eco-friendly tomorrow,” said Chanwoo Park, President of Samsung’s IoT business unit.

In SmartThings Energy, consumers can view, control and reduce their energy usage in a way that decreases their costs and reduces the impact on the environment. It provides real-time energy consumption data and addresses challenges associated with power hungry appliances like air conditioners.

A user can easily switch between viewing the consumption and cost estimates for their individual devices and the entire SmartThings Energy service. Users can also customize their homepage by:

1) Make sure your home appliances are using the least amount of energy. One device can be used to check electricity and water consumption and multiple devices can be used to aggregate usage. In addition, users can see how much energy they use each month in comparison with their goal.

2) Explore consumption data. Users can easily see how much electricity is consumed by each one of their devices using user-friendly charts. As well as receive suggestions for energy conservation based on the connected devices.

3) You can save power by making notifications that alert you when you’re using too much energy during a particular time period. An example of this is when devices are left on when users are away from the house.

All Samsung products, including home appliances and HVAC products, will be supported by the new service. WWST partners will be provided with SmartThings in the future, as will new power management partners.

Samsung also recently announced Galaxy Upcycling at Home, which enables consumers to convert their Galaxy smartphones into smart devices. This is Samsung’s latest commitment to a more sustainable future. It announced an expansion of its Galaxy Upcycling Program earlier this year.

By incorporating environmental sustainability into everything it does, Samsung wants to help its consumers conserve resources and reduce their environmental footprint with power-efficient chips, sustainable packaging, energy-saving technology, and the ability to upcycle older devices.
