Samsung wants to make managing your smart home a more relaxing affair. It’s introducing an easier way to manage multiple devices at the same time. Called SmartThings Station, it’s a thin square box that functions as your smart home hub and doubles as a 15W fast charging pad (wireless charging). For now, it will only be launched in February 2023 for the U.S. and Korea markets.

The SmartThings Station helps bring together a wide range of smart devices with others connected to the smart home server. This could include thermostats, lighting, power outlets or other smart devices. Besides this, it can also keep tabs on what they are doing, enable pre-set routines (configurable on SmartThings app) as well as track where devices are at any given time.

Activating a routine set for bedtime could turn off the lights, lower the lower the blinds and set the air-conditioner’s temperature just to how you’d like it. It’s an extremely convenient way to get multiple things done with a single action. Routines can be configured via the SmartThings app.

Samsung also lets you configure the button on the SmartThings Hub for three different routines with a short press, long press and by double clicking. It can also be used to find a misplaced device such as a smartphone or tablet.

Device detection and Alert, lets you know when someone or the family pet with a SmartTag/SmartTag+ leaves or returns home. You can also track registered devices’ as well as belongings attached with aforementioned SmartTags. You can view where they are via a smartphone and receive alerts about their movements.

Once you’ve placed your smartphone on the SmartThings Station to charge, and if the pre-set routines are enabled, they can be enabled automatically once wireless charging is detected. You’ll also receive an alarm as a notification that your phone is fully charged.

This hub shows promise but we will have to wait a little while longer to see if it meets expectations. In terms of smart device compatibility, only ones that are Zigbee or Matter certificated will be able to work with the platform.
