Windows 11 Will Arrive On October 5th But You Might Have To Wait Till 2022

The official release of Windows 11 will be available to the general public on October 5th. However, this doesn’t mean that you’ll be able to download it on said date. In a recent blog post, Microsoft stated that it’ll prioritize new machines over existing ones for the upgrade. Once this is done, said upgrade will roll out over time to everyone else by using “intelligence models”.

These models are used to consider “hardware eligibility, reliability metrics, age of device and other factors that impact the upgrade experience” before allowing a machine to upgrade. It’s a very vague statement that could see many older PCs denied access to Windows 11 until June 2022.

This is the official statement:

“We want to make sure we’re providing you with the best possible experience. That means new eligible devices will be offered the upgrade first. The upgrade will then roll out over time to in-market devices based on intelligence models that consider hardware eligibility, reliability metrics, age of device and other factors that impact the upgrade experience. We expect all eligible devices to be offered the free upgrade to Windows 11 by mid-2022.”

On October 5th, you can still check to see if Windows 11 is ready for your device by going to Settings > Windows Update and select Check for Updates.
