Google has announced the availability of Android 11 beta. This installment of the company’s operating system brings with it a whole host of new and exciting features. The beta phase enables early adopters and developers with Pixel phones to gain access to upcoming operating systems before they are officially released to consumers.

Just like operating systems preceding it, Android 11 includes several new features that the Search giant hopes, we will find useful. Changes have been made to give the OS a refined and structured look, and provide users with a better Android experience.

Here are 5 reasons why we should be excited about Android 11:

#1 – All Conversations Kept In Single Location
Android 11 will move your conversations from all your messaging apps, to a dedicated space in the notification section. This makes it easier for you to see and respond to messages. A conversation can be marked as ‘priority’, which gives it greater importance over the others. Key conversations show up on the always-on display and Do Not Disturb setting.

#2 – Bubbles
It is supposed to promote productivity by helping you respond to conversations without switching back and forth from your current task. A Bubble can be opened for a conversation within the notification section. This negates the need to exit your current app to respond to a text.

#3 – Gboard for Android 11
When using the improved Google keyboard, relevant suggestions for emojis and text are provided while you type. This is done through a secure on-device AI that uses Federated Learning. It resides on your device, so Google doesn’t see anything that is typed.

#4 – Consolidated IoT Management
Android 11 allows quick access to connected smart devices by ‘long pressing’ the power button. Doing so, brings you to a menu where you can access controls to all your devices that include adjusting the temperature, turning on the lights or unlocking the front door.

That’s not all, the menu also shows other information like your payment methods or your boarding pass. Google says that you can think of it as a “pocket” for a digital wallet, keys and more.

#5 – Better Media Controls
There is a better control centre within Android 11, which makes it quick and convenient to decide which device should play your audio or video content. The OS allows you to switch between your headphones, speakers and TV within a single interface.

There are several other improvements including one-time permissions , screen recorder, updated Voice Access, better overall performance and improved share menus. Android 11 Beta is available on Pixel 2+ devices but other Pixel devices should be eligible for the programme in the coming weeks.
