Today’s smartphones are equipped with decently sized batteries, 3700mAh is the norm now. That said, bigger batteries do not equate to exponentially better battery life. The limiting factor here is the chipset. How power efficient is it?

Phones equipped with lower end processors like the Snapdragon 660 won’t be as efficient as a 710 or 850. There’s nothing you can do about this but, by tweaking your phones’ settings, you could eke out a little more juice.

Here are five ways that you can achieve this:

1. Turn off Adaptive Brightness

The screen is the most power hungry component of a smartphone. Sometimes it is responsible for about 75% of your smartphone’s daily power consumption. Adaptive/ automatic brightness plays a part here too. On my Samsung Galaxy A50, with adaptive brightness turned on, I was getting a full day of battery life. When this feature was turned off, there was a noticeable improvement  –  half a day more, of juice! (brightness has to remain lower than half)

2. Screen-on Time

Limit how long your screen stays on when your device is kept idle. This does add up over the course of the entire day.

3. Limit Notifications

Over the years, Android has become progressively more sophisticated. It now grants users the ability to manage individual app notifications. By limiting the number of apps that are allowed to push notifications to your device, less power will be consumed by these errant apps throughout the day.

4. Clear Your Memory

Make it a habit to close or swipe away apps that are no longer in use. Background apps are less of a problem on Android 9.0 and 10.0, but they still take up valuable amount of RAM. In some instances, getting rid of them can help.

5. Limit Background Apps

The less that’s going on in the background, the better. Limit the effects of notoriously power hungry apps by only allowing the essential ones to run in the background. If you aren’t sure, which one of them is the problem, check the memory usage feature located in your settings.

If you’re having trouble finding what you are looking for, type the keywords in the search bar in the apps or settings menu.
