Acer Releases Chromebook Spin 512 & 511, Tough Laptops For Kids
January 21, 2021Acer has launched two new Chromebooks aimed at students and the education industry at large. They are called the Acer Chromebook Spn 512 (R853TA) (12-inch HD IPS display) and the Spin 511 (R753T) (11.6-inch HD IPS display). These laptops get either an Intel Pentium Silver or Celeron processor.
Both feature a MIL-STD 810H, rating, a tamper-resistant keyboard, and Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass display. The 512 also has an antimicrobial coating that protects the keyboard, touchpad and palm area.
“Whether learning from home or in a classroom setting, students need a reliable Chromebook that will keep them connected and ready to engage,” said James Lin, General Manager, Notebooks, IT Products Business, Acer Inc.
Acer says both laptops are built to withstand bumps, scraps and drops. The Corning Gorilla Glass screen is scratch-resistant, which is a fitting trait considering its market. Their shock absorbent bumper and reinforced shell can help them survive drops from 122cm high and up to 60kg of downward force.
Besides this they also get widened brackets for additional support and I/O ports that are reinforced with additional metallic plates for rigidity. They also have mechanically anchored keyboard keys that are difficult to remove but easy to replace. That’s not all, they are also spill resistant and the touchpads are also moisture-resistant.
The screens are attached to 360-degree hinges that allow them to rotate to serve various applications. At the top of the displays are 8MP webcams with an 88-degree-field-of-view. Powered by either an Intel N4500 or N5100 CPUs, both Chromebooks are able to offer battery life of up to 10 hours.
They can be ordered with up to 64GB eMMC storage and 8GB RAM. They also get WiFi 6, USB 3.2 Type-C ports and Bluetooth 5.1. The Acer Chromebook Spin 512 will be available in North America in April at $429.99 while the Spin 511 will be available at $399.99. Visit www.acer.com
