BMW Releases i4 M50, All-Wheel Drive EV Sedan

BMW announced the i4 M50 at the Malaysia Autoshow 2023. First previewed during the 50th anniversary of BMW’s motorsports division last year, it’s the first all-electric M car that is meant to allow owners to enjoy an EV that offers the kind of driving enjoyment that the company is known for.

The car has the BMW M 50 Years Emblems as standard. There’s also the M Aerodynamics package, M rear spoiler in body colour and black rear diffuser insert. As for the interior, it’s furnished with the M interior trim and Carbon Fibre trim finishers, M Anthracite Headliner.

There are also M Sport seats at the front, M seat belts, instrument panel in Sensatec, and electrical glass roof. Like the iX1, the i40 also has the BMW IconicSounds Electric provides sound experience meant to mimic a sporty “M” sounding engine.

Powering the i4 M50 are two eDrive motors, one is fitted to the front and the other, the rear axle. This gives the car a dynamic all-wheel drive power delivery. Total power output is 400kW (544 hp) and torque of 795Nm when left in Sport Boost mode. As such, it can sprint from 0-100km/h in just 3.9 seconds and reach a limited top speed of 225km/h.

BMW says the i4 M50 has a range of 510km(WLTP cycle) due to its energy consumption of 24 – 19kWh/100km. Charging can be done with both AC and DC modes. If you use the 11-kW AC charger, expect to receive a full charge in 8 hours and 15 minutes. However, if you use the 200kW DC charger, the car can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 31 minutes.

In terms of safety equipment, there are plenty, which include Acoustic Protection for Pedestrians, Active Protection for Pedestrians, Driving Assistant Professional, Parking Assistant Plus and Active Protection.

Sporting a sticker price of RM445,800.00 (without insurance), the BMW i4 M50 can be ordered in Mineral White, Black Sapphire, M Brooklyn Grey, M Portimao Blue and Sanremo Green. As for upholstery options, there are Leather Vernasca in Black with Blue Contrast Stitching and Leather Vernasca in Cognac.
