Google Play Music To be Replaced By YouTube Music

Google wants its users to migrate to YouTube Music as soon as reasonably possible. In an effort to consolidate its list of services, Google Play Music will be shut down but its users and their subscription plans will he ported over over to YouTube.

There’s the ad-supported free version, but for $9.99 a month, you will have access to the entire library, ad-free. However, if you opt for YouTube Premium ($11.99), then there’s also background listening and offline playback across all of YouTube.

But that’s not all, users get to transfer their playlists, music libraries, preferences and other settings to YouTube Music. The company is making the process as simple as possible with what it calls ‘three easy steps”.

If you’re wondering when the axe will come down on Google Play Music, it will happen sometime towards the end of the year. In the meantime, you will have the option to access it, as well as well as YouTube Music concurrently.

It’s best not to procrastinate too much here, because porting your stuff over isn’t that difficult. All you have to do is download the YouTube Music app, and click on the “Transfer” button. Then watch as all your uploads, purchases, added songs and albums, personal and subscribed playlists, likes and dislikes, curated stations and others magically appear.

Google is also sending emails to users with clear instructions on how to transfer to YouTube Music. This is proof that it wants everyone to jump ship sooner rather than later. Take a look at the following link to see what they mean.

  • Playlist Creation: We’ve increased playlist length from 1,000 to 5,000 songs to make room for even more of your favorites songs.
  • Uploads: You can listen to your uploaded and purchased music from Google Play Music after your transfer, or add up to 100,000 personal tracks to your library in YouTube Music
  • Offline listening: Paying members can download any song, playlist, music video or let smart downloads (Android only for now)
  • Lyrics: Lyrics offer highly visible access to follow along to tracks.
  • Explore Tab: An all-new Explore tab offering one go-to place to discover new music
