Stadia Closes Its Gaming Studio

Big changes are afoot at Stadia. In a recent blog post, the company announced that it will shift its focus away from developing its own games. Instead, it wants to expand efforts to help game developers and publishers take advantage of its gaming platform to create games for its customers. This move will also affect the existence of the team behind the exclusive content.

The internal development team SG&E, the same people who were tasked with churning out content, will be moved into different roles at the company. That said, games that are currently being worked on, will go on. It’s just that, they won’t be tasked with new projects.

This may just be a case of Alphabet, Google’s parent company, biting off more than it could chew. Stadia is an online game streaming platform, and a young one at that. Yet, it has bold ambitions to take on the titans of the gaming industry that includes the likes of Microsoft. As such, the shuttering of its gaming studio may serve as a hint of how tough the industry can be.

The company also sad, “We’re committed to the future of cloud gaming, and will continue to do our part to drive this industry forward. Our goal remains focused on creating the best possible platform for gamers and technology for our partners, bringing these experiences to life for people everywhere.”

However, this will not affect consumers. Stadia and Stadia Pro subscribers will continue to enjoy the same gaming content, with new gaming titles from third party publishers being introduced from time to time. The Stadia team’s main priority for the foreseeable future is supporting third party developers and bringing their content to its platform.
