Google is integrating generative AI technology into most of its products, which include Gmail and Messages. Android as a whole is getting a whole host of improvements which will transform the look and feel of a device from the way it looks to how it works with you.

Magic Compose is a new feature of Messages by Google that uses generative AI to help with typing messages. It will offer suggested responses based on the context of a reply and will be able to reword it to suit a different style. The company says that this can help your messages seem more concise and professional. It should be rolled out in beta within the next few months.

Material You, a feature within Android that allows the colors and themes to match the look of your chosen wallpaper, is getting an improvement. Arriving with Android 14, you will be able to add your personal touch to the lock screen with new shortcuts and clocks. There will also be a new monochrome color theme that can be applied across the entire phone.

There are also new wallpapers that will be first on Pixel devices next month. Emoji wallpapers lets you customise things to suit your favorite emoji combination, patterns and colors. Cinematic wallpaper uses on-device machine learning networks to turn your chosen photos into interesting 3D images. The effect is noticeable when unlocking or tilting the phone.

If you would like to create something new, the Generative AI wallpaper feature might be of interest to you. Just answer the suggested prompts to describe what you are looking for. By utilizing Google’s text-to-image diffusion model, the phone will generate unique wallpapers that you can choose from.

Once you’ve chosen the right one, Material You will be able to match the color palette of the Android UI to suit said wallpaper. Instead of having to look for something that suits your taste, you can create something unique on your own.

What we’ve covered here is only a small portion of what Google’s AI will be able to offer us in the coming months. Stay tuned for more updates.
