Honda Malaysia is looking to set new goals for the local market. As part of its new strategic direction, the company has set a sales target of 80,000 units for 2022. Said figure is based on its forecast for the total industry volume (TIV) of 600,000 units. The stated figure includes the sale of 2 new vehicle models, which have yet to be announced.

The company also stated that it plans on leaning into the interest generated by the RS e:HEV variant of the City by adding a similar configuration for a future model lineup. Currently, the City hatchback RS e:HEV retails for a smidgen under RM108k, which is far more expensive than the far more reasonable asking price of the base model.

But with it, you get a hybrid drivetrain that offers a balance of both efficiency and performance. This has helped garner a great deal of interest in City sedan and hatchback cars, and to an extension helped Honda regain its credibility from the 1990s as a driver-focused company.

Future model line ups will see the introduction of next gen tech such as turbocharged VTEC engines as well as SENSING and CONNECT systems. That said, the company is no longer content with pushing the boundaries with new vehicles. It also wants to venture into the second-hand car market.

This is why it will be launching its Honda Certified Used Car business, which will allow consumers to purchase pre-owned vehicles at a competitive price. Manufacturers have jumped on this bandwagon to help users purchase vehicles that have been thoroughly inspected to ensure worry a free driving experience. This runs counter to what is usually expected from secondhand car dealers.

Honda also wants to also improve its current after-sales services to increase customer satisfaction. This includes expanding its mobile services to make it more convenient for customers to have their vehicles serviced at their preferred location. Appointments can be made via the HondaTouch application, after which relevant mobile teams will be in touch with them.

These value-added services have helped bolster customer satisfaction and allowed Honda to maintain its position as the no.1 non-national vehicle maker in the country since 2014. Last year alone, the company managed to shift 53,031 vehicles. The City, HR-V and CR-V models were its best-selling models accounting for 36%, 21% and 14% of 2021’s total sales respectively.
