Honda Launches 11th Gen Civic: It’s Sleeker But More Grown Up

January 13, 2022 Off By Rowena Cletus

Honda has launched the new 11th generation Civic here in Malaysia. It features a more grown up overall look and a sleeker profile compared to the outgoing car. It is hoped that this youthful appearance will capture the interest of younger car buyers. This is made especially apparent by the presence of “less angry” LED headlights with DRL and rear LED combi taillights.

According to the automaker, this new Civic has been “refined” to offer better handling and ride comfort. Body rigidity has been stiffened too because Honda claims that has 8% higher torsional rigidity and 13% increase in bending rigidity compared to the outgoing car. Besides this, NVH or noise, vibration and harshness have been tempered with the use of insulators and spray foam in the chassis.

The car is available in three different variants: RS, V and E (in descending order of importance). The RS moniker, popularized by the smaller City, represents the highest trim level of all three variants. This car comes with black painted side mirrors, shark fin antenna, outer door handles, trunk spoiler, twin tailpipes and 18-nch matte black alloy wheels.

Besides this, the RS variant comes with a combi leather seats with red stitching, red stitching leather steering wheel, black headlining, sport pedal and foot lamp. However, both RS and V variants get a 9-inch advanced display audio with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Connectivity and 2 Front USB ports. That said, all three variants will get a 7-inch TFT meter, 2 rear USB ports and the smart Clear wiper.

All three variants receive a turbocharged 1.5-litre VTEC engine that produces 182ps and 240Nm of torque. There’s no other engine option available as it was the case with the outgoing model. Honda believes that this engine and CVT transmission are sufficient to fulfill driver demands including better performance for a more enjoyable drive.

Drivers can select between three different drive mode options which are ECON, Normal and Sport Mode via the Drive Mode Switch. Each preset alters throttle response to suit their designated namesake. The use of the word “performance” in its press material suggests that Honda wants to drive home the notion of the Civic being a drivers’ car.

The interior is built around the concept of spaciousness, which is made apparent by the increased use of glass area compared to the previous generation car. A honeycomb mesh panel extends across the entire dashboard, which is major departure from Honda’s usual design language.
