Link Your Samsung Phone With Windows 10
July 5, 2021WFH or Work From Home hasn’t been a cakewalk our pre-pandemic selves envisioned. Instead, it has proven to be all-consuming, blurring the line between one’s work and personal life. But there are steps you can take to help manage your workload efficiently. One such way is to reduce the need to juggle between using your smartphone and PC.
Windows 10 allows you to take control of your Samsung smartphone right from your PC’s desktop through the use of the Your Phone app. That said, these Android apps aren’t running natively on Windows, instead your PC is only mirroring your smartphone’s screen. Whatever you type or swipe within the app, is actually taking place on your phone.
The idea behind the app is to create a universal workspace within your PC, negating the need to constantly check your phone for new messages, answer calls or view other apps. Messaging apps like WhatsApp, Signal and Telegram can be installed on your Windows PC directly.
However, the Link To Windows allows you to access all your apps instead of having to manually install each of them on your PC (only a handful of them support PC compatibility). Getting started is quite simple:
Before we start, you will need to make sure that your phone and PC are on the same WiFi network and that your Microsoft account is active on both devices.
#1 Access your Samsung Galaxy’s app drawer and enable Link To Windows. For other Android phones you will need to go to www.aka.ms/yourpc and follow the instructions.
# 2 Check to make sure that your PC and Phone are on the same WiFi network
#3 In the task bar, search for Link Your Phone
#4 Click on said option
#5 On your phone, press and hold the Link To Windows icon. It should take you to its settings menu. Here choose to add a computer, then scan the QR code that is displayed on your PC’s Link Your Phone app.
#6 you will be asked to sign into your Microsoft account on your smartphone and PC, if you haven’t already done so.
#7 Follow the on screen instructions to finish the linking process. That should be it.
For easier access, pin the Your Phone app to your Windows taskbar. Everytime you want to use the app, make sure that you’ve unlocked your phone first and given screen sharing permission to the companion app.
