Huawei’s Mate Xs, a folding tablet not unlike that of Samsung’s Galaxy Fold, is one of the more interesting devices that utilize bendable display tech. Unlike its rivals, it folds outward, leaving its entire 8-inch display exposed on both sides.

That said, the fold isn’t symmetrical, the larger fold on the right serves as as the main display when folded completely. The hinge mechanism, which Huawei coined the ‘Falcon Wing Design, is made up of an intricate system of interlocking links that gives the device its toughness.

iFixit has taken a crack at disassembling the Mate Xs, which unsurprisingly, proved to be an arduous task. The painstaking process required a good amount of persistence to properly take the parts apart especially when it came to the hinge mechanism.

Huawei’s folding tablet is equipped with high-end hardware, which include the Kirin 990 5G chip and an advanced cooling system to ensure that it can handle any task without breaking a sweat. Unfortunately, the Mate Xs doesn’t come with Google apps.

The US government’s ban on Huawei, effectively prevents US based companies like Google from working with the company. This has put the Chinese smartphone maker at a major disadvantage, and turning its high-end flagship devices into nothing more than glorified cameras with exceptionally sharp displays.
