Samsung has finally announced the specifics pertaining to the new Z Fold 2. It’s the follow up model to the original folding phablet released last year. Though similar in appearance to the first Fold, the new one borrows several aesthetics cues from the new Note20 Series. It has the same camera bump and material design, that give it a commanding presence.

Unlike the first attempt, the new Fold 2 has a full 6.2-inch Infinity-O display on the front. It’s a breath of fresh air compared to the dainty display featured on last year’s phone. Even when shut, you can be as productive on this as any other Android phone out there. But when unfolded, the inner display spreads out to reveal a 120Hz, 7.6-inch screen with minimal bezels.

The folding mechanism uses what Samsung calls the “CAM mechanism”, which allows for free standing capabilities that provide it with the same versatility as the Flip. Since, there’s so much of real-estate to play with, the screen allows you to multi-task by splitting the top and bottom halves to display different functions.

When using the camera app, the top half can show the regular camera functions, while the bottom displays the pictures that you’ve recently taken. The same is true for various other features and apps, which we will need time to thoroughly examine. The hardware is pretty decent too, there’s a 12MP ultra wide, Wide and telephoto sensors on the rear of the phone.

Powered by a Snapdragon 865, the phone comes with 12GB of RAM and a choice of either 256GB or 512GB of storage space. But surprisingly, and despite the high-end hardware, the phone is only capable of 4K video recoding, not 8K. On the flip size, its flex mod supports various apps such as Camera, Video call, Gallery and more to come.
