Spotify Wants To Embrace WFH Culture, Even After Pandemic

Spotify wants to change the way it manages its workforce. In a recent blogpost the company suggested that it would take the current work from home (WFH) arrangement a step further. Apparently the pandemic isn’t to blame for this, but acted as a catalyst that helped with its idea of ‘digitalizing and globalizing’ its workforce.

The company says that it wants to create a more flexible workplace that better suits its staffers and business model. Spotify believes its ‘distributed-first’ model isn’t built on the premise that employees need to gather in an office with traditional desk setups. And that’s the reason it is introducing Work From Anywhere (WFA).

It’s a new way for its workforce to collaborate and work from a location that allows them to be their most productive. Employees now have the option of choosing their work mode. They can opt to work mostly from home (any geographic location) or in the office.

This is the company’s logic with WFA:

  • Work isn’t something our people come to the office for, it’s something they do.
  • Effectiveness can’t be measured by the number of hours people spend in an office.
  • Instead, giving people the freedom to choose where they work will boost effectiveness.
  • Giving our people more flexibility will support a better work-life balance and also help tap into new talent pools while keeping our existing band members.
  • A distributed-first structure will challenge us to improve our communication and collaboration practices, processes, and tools.

Spotify also says that this WFA mantra has enabled it to evaluate its office spaces around the globe for increased “sustainability, flexibility and well-being”. This could result in the music streaming giant shuttering certain workplaces in favor of a remote work culture.
