WhatsApp continues to get better with age. Now, the messaging service is adding a new feature that aims to make your texts more private and secure. Called Chat Lock, it will protect your conversations with an extra layer of security.

If you choose to lock a chat, said conversation thread will be taken out of the inbox and put in its own folder. It can only be accessed after inputting your device password or biometric, like a fingerprint. In addition to this, it also automatically hides said contents from showing up in your notifications.

This is a good feature for private conversations, especially useful if other people tend to use your phone from time to time. To lock a personal or group chat, tap the name of said conversation and select the lock option. If you want to reveal them, slowly pull down on your inbox and enter the phone password or biometric.

In the coming months, WhatsApp will be adding more options to the Chat Lock feature, which includes locking companion devices and creating a custom password for chats. This will allow you to use a unique password that is different from the one used to unlock your phone.
