Samsung is bringing more functionality and apps to the Galaxy Watch series. The introduction of Samsung Wallet, Thermo Check and WhatsApp will allow wearers to accomplish more tasks on their smartwatch instead of having to pull out their smartphones.

Last year, Samsung Wallet combined Samsung Pay and Samsung Pass to offer a one-stop solution to allow users to store all their cards, private information and passwords in a single place. Now, the same feature is able on the Galaxy Watch series too. Wearers can use their smartwatch to make payments, provide IDs and save movie tickets.

The introduction of the new Skin Temperature API, which is part of Samsung’s Privileged Health software development kit (SDK), allows developers to take advantage of the new hardware. Through the use of the Galaxy Watch series’ advanced infrared technology, temperature measurements can be taken.

As such, the Thermo Check app can be used to measure the temperature of the wearer’s surroundings. This works in most environments including when you go for a swim. Samsung says this new feature will be made available to the upcoming Galaxy watches first before it eventually makes its way to the Galaxy Watch5 series.

Lastly, WhatsApp’s dedicated Wear OS app is now available to the Galaxy Watch5 and Watch4. It also happens to be the messaging service’s first-ever smartwatch app. You can use it to continue conversations, reply to messages by voice and answer calls. All this can be done without the aid of your smartphone, which adds to the overall level of convenience.

Samsung is gearing up to launch the new Galaxy Watch6 series at its upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event that’s happening on July 26th. Witness the event live on Samsung Newsroom, Samsung.com or Samsung’s YouTube channel.
