You Can Now Unlock the Hyundai GV60 Genesis with Your Smartphone

If you own a Hyundai GV60 Genesis electric vehicle, Samsung is about to make your vehicle ownership experience slightly better. It has teamed up with the car manufacturer to support ultra-wideband (UWB) digital car keys for Galaxy devices. As of now, only 7 models are supported:

Galaxy S22+, Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold3, Galaxy S21+, Galaxy S21 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold2, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

These digital keys are stored within Samsung Pass, it’s the company’s app for storing digital signatures, IDs, and passwords on supported smartphones. But the feature will eventually make its way to Samsung Wallet, which will also allow users to store and manage digital IDs, boarding passes, vouchers, and credit cards on their phones.

To use a digital key on your smartphone:

  • Install and open up the Genesis Connected Service app in the car.
  • Select “Vehicle” menu on the infotainment system.
  • Select the “Digital Key” menu on the screen, and “Register” on your Genesis Connected app.

Once a key has been registered, the car will identify the authorized Galaxy devices and unlock the door if one of the two methods are used: You can either walk up to the car and press the door sensor or simply approach it with your smartphone in hand. Through the use of Samsung Pass you can also remotely honk the horn or start the engine.

If you wish to share your car with others, said digital key can be shared with three of your contacts by selecting them from a list and clicking “send digital key”. A text message will then be sent to them with guidance on how to set up a digital key on their Galaxy devices. But you have the ability to control how long they have access to the key and revoke said access when needed.

Samsung’s long-term goal is to increase the number of smartphone models that support digital keys using UWB technology. Though only 7 phones are currently supported, eventually more of us will be able to unlock our future cars with Galaxy smartphones.
