AMD’s RX 5500 graphics card is for 1080p gaming
October 9, 2019AMD has introduced a new member to the RX 5500 series graphics cards for mid-range gaming requirements. It’s called the RX 5500 and it’s able to deliver better performance than the similarly priced competition for 1080p gaming. This new card will be offered for both desktop and laptop PCs with the latter given the RX 5500M nomenclature.
Several manufacturers including HP, Lenovo and Acer are already on board and will include this graphic card in their upcoming model line up. Built on the RDNA gaming architecture the new 7nm desktop and mobile chips could prove to be the sweet-spot for those aiming for 1080p gaming on a budget.
The RX5500 will be offered with up to 8GB of GDDR6 memory, up to 5.2 TFLOPS and a clock speed of 1,717MHz. The mobile variant gets 4GB of GDDR6 memory, up to 4.6 TFLOPS, and a clock speed of 1,448MHz. The performance isn’t ground-breaking but if positioned properly, it could appeal to a wide demographic.
According to AMD, MSI will be one of the first companies to fit the mid-range card into its laptops beginning this month, with the first being the MSI Alpha 15. The desktop equivalent will be fitted with HP’s Omen Obelisk and Lenovo Legion T530, to name a few. It will take a month or two before the RX 5500 will be widely available across multiple platforms and brands.
