BlackBerry QNX to Power ARCFOX

BlackBerry Limited has sealed a partnership that will see its QNX technology power the ARCFOX αT’s digital cockpit. The Chinese-made electric SUV is packed with autonomous technology that includes radar and several cameras. It’s supposed to be able to maneuver safely around other vehicles, park itself and perform emergency braking when needed.

“We are thrilled to work with ARCFOX to help them take advantage of one of the auto industry’s most significant trends – the exploding demand for safe, seamless, digital in-car experiences,” said John Wall, Senior Vice President and Co-Head of BlackBerry Technology Solutions.

The QNX Hypervisor provides reliability and performance of the QNX® Neutrino® RTOS, but also allows for multiple operating systems to co-exist on the same platform. In fact developers can use this architecture to isolate critical systems from non-essential ones, which will allow important systems to function even if other components fail.

BlackBerry’s QNX technology is used in more than 175 million vehicles on the road including in advanced driver assistance (ADAS), digital instrument clusters, connectivity modules, handsfree, and infotainment systems. And the QNX® Hypervisor, the world’s first ISO 26262 ASIL D safety-certified commercial embedded hypervisor.

Before the company transitioned to embedded systems and cybersecurity technology, BlackBerry was a major player in the smartphone space. It’s legendary BlackBerry Messenger and security protocols made its phones the most sought after devices of the business community. Sadly, the advent of the iPhone and Android pushed them into relative obscurity.
