AC Cars Is Bringing The Cobra Back As An EV
July 25, 2021The 1962 Shelby Cobra is one of the most iconic cars of all time. It was the brainchild of legendary racer and car builder, Carroll Shelby. Wanting to produce a great handling sports car, Shelby partnered with UK outfit AC, to mate their lightweight and nimble AC Ace with Ford’s powerful 260-cubic inch, small block V8. And the rest is history.
Today, it’s still one of the most sought after classic cars in the world. According to the duPont Registry, an unrestored Shelby 427 Cobra can exchange hands for more than a million US dollars. The timeless design, nimble handling, and raw power provide drivers with the most visceral driving experience one could have south of a race car.
That’s why AC cars have chosen to resurrect the car and bring it up to speed with modern technology. The AC Cobra Series 1 electric is currently undergoing a final development process. It will join the AC Cobra Series 4 electric which was announced in June as the company’s line of restomod sports cars.

It’s part of the company’s current philosophy of combining classic looks of the original models with modern, fully-electric powertrains. Partnering with Falcon Electric, the Norfolk based company wants to implement EV tech into its famous cars.

AC Cars will only make 58 examples of the AC Cobra Series 1 electric in celebration of the anniversary of the original AC Cobra. Each car will be priced at £138,000, plus on the road charges. It can be purchased in one of four different colours: electric blue, electric black, electric white and electric green.
