Google is doing its part in the global battle against the coronavirus pandemic. The company is constantly evaluating its operational prudence with the governance of its offices around the world. Changes are being made to ensure that the health of its workers are safeguarded at all times.

One of the many ways to mitigate the spread of this virus, is to limit large scale gatherings. This is true for entertainment events as it is for offices. As a result, many companies have resorted to allowing their employees to work from home.

But that can pose a problem too. And that is where Google comes in. The search giant has adopted several active measures to help combat misinformation online and the way it fuel mass hysteria and panic buying around the world.

Google Search, is the preferred resource when sourcing for important content. The company’s SOS Alert in search, connects people with the latest news, safety tips and links to more authoritative information from the World Health Organisation (WHO).

On the YouTube homepage, users are directed to WHO or locally relevant authoritative organisations as credible sources for information on the current situation. Google Maps will also provides helpful and reliable information when needed.

The company’s Trust and Safety team is working tirelessly to safeguard users from phishing, conspiracy theories, malware and misinformation as well as other new threats. It is also removing content that claim to help prevent coronavirus in place of seeking medical attention.

Lastly, the company is also blocking ads that are capitalizing on the virus outbreak. Apparently, Google has already blocked tens of thousands of ads over the last six weeks. The company is also assisting the WHO and government organisations by running PSA ads as and when necessary.
