Google is infusing generative AI capabilities into Search, which allows for more in-depth and meaningful search results. The company says that this will help users to get as much relevant information as possible to get things done quickly.

Previously, when searching for answers on a certain topic, you’d receive multiple results from Google. You’ll then need to sift through them to gather the relevant information. But now, through the use of generative AI, you won’t need to rummage as much as before.

AI Generative Search
The Search, with the help of AI, will provide a snapshot of the information you need as well as links for further details. Below that information will be the suggested next steps as well as the ability for users to ask follow-up questions.

Google says that Search will understand the context of your questions as well as answer preceding ones by remembering your previous queries. This will provide a more natural way of searching for what is needed. It will also provide other helpful web content and perspectives for consideration.

Better Shopping Experience
The same generative AI in Search can help you look for and purchase items faster than before. When looking for something to buy, a snapshot will be provided of noteworthy factors to consider. There will be product descriptions such as reviews, ratings, prices and product images.

Since Google has the biggest dataset of product listings of any platform, you’ll be getting the best and most comprehensive information for each earth result. The company says that every hour, more than 1.8 billion listings are refreshed in its Shipping Graph, allowing users to get the most recent and dependable results.

Google will continue to show ads with search results but they will be distinguishable from the organic content that you’re looking for. The company also acknowledges that generative AI and Search will not offer the correct answers every time. But it is doing its best to train its AI to help maintain the level of trust we expect from Google.

This generative AI version of Search will be made available via Search Labs. It’s Google’s experimental platform that provides access to the public for limited use and to gather feedback for product improvement. Called SGE (Search Generative Experience) it will be available on Chrome desktop and Google app (Android and iOS) in the U.S. (English Only).

If you would like to sign up for Search Labs you can do so at labs.google.com/search on the Chrome browser or tap on the lab icon in the Google app. SGE should be made available in the coming weeks.
