Google Lends Helping Hand With $100 Million
May 8, 2020Google is doing its part to support businesses during the COVID-19 crisis. The Search giant has already funneled $50 million in grants, that will be used in areas that would bring the most benefit to individuals and businesses. This includes health and science, economic relief and recovery, and distance learning.
The company has announced that it is going to commit another $50 million, bringing its total contribution to $100 million. This is in addition to Google.org Fellows’ pledge to provide 50,000 hours to COVID-19 specific projects. Here’s a breakdown of where said funds are being channeled to:
Health And Science
Medical frontliners are dealing with the brunt of the COVID-19 crisis. Google has already committed up to $10.5 million through public-matching campaigns wtiht Googler donations. It will be used to support preparedness, containment, response and recovery for those affected and for frontline workers around the world.
Economic Relief and Recovery
Google has given more than $15 million in cash grants to nonprofits that help ailing SMEs. An additional $5 million in grants will be provided to Common Future to provide capital and technical assistance to 2,000 women and minority small business entrepreneurs in the U.S. It will also make a $5 million grant to Youth Business International.
Local Community Efforts
Businesses around the world have been affected by the crisis, and Google is no exception. As such, $10 million will be channeled to crisis relief grants to nonprofits in communities where the Search giant’s offices are located.
Other Efforts
More than $8 million in direct cash assistance will be provided to individuals who are hardest hit by the crisis in the U.S. Then there also the $10 million distance learning fund which will directly help schools, teachers and parents to continue distance learning efforts. This will ensure that schools can continue to conduct classes online.
