Group Calls Will Never Be Missed Again

Group calls have been gaining in popularity during this pandemic. Being apart from close friends and family members for an extended period of time, can be a problem. That’s why WhatsApp has made improvements to the messaging app’s user experience while maintaining the level of transparency and security provided by end-to-end encryption.

You can now join a group call even after it has already started, begining today. Having the option to join a group call eases the burden of answering a group call when it starts, and allows group calling on WhatsApp to feel more spontaneous and easy.

You can have some of the most meaningful conversations when you least expect it. Now, even if someone misses a call when the phone rings, they will still be able to join at any time they want. As long as the call is still in progress, you can leave and rejoin.

Additionally, we created a screen that shows who is currently on the call, as well as who has been invited but not yet joined. If you choose to ignore, you have the option to join later from the WhatsApp calls tab.

The feature will be available from today. A conversation can only have eight active participants at one time. When placing or receiving group video calls, make sure you and your contacts have strong internet connections. During the video call, the quality will be affected by the weakest connection.

You can turn off your video during a group video call by tapping Video off. During a group video call, you cannot remove a contact. Disconnecting from the call will require the contact to hang up their phone. In a group video call, you may be able to join a blocked contact, but you cannot join a blocked contact or a blocked contact to your group video call. Video calling is available only on Android phones running version 4.1 or higher.
